Day 2 - Seaside, OR to Gold Beach, OR

Left the lovely town of Seaside late as usual. We knew it was going to be a long day of driving, but after talking to the front desk clerk at the hotel, we quickly realized it was going to be a REALLY long day. The morning was pretty foggy, it had 'burned off' a bit by the time we arrived to Cannon Beach. This is where we played on the beach for a bit beside Haystack Rock. Looked around for some Puffins, but didn't see any... Next stop was Tillamook, famous for it's cheese. We stopped at the Blue Heron French Cheese Company for a tasting and some lunch. Then we took a scenic detour and saw some unecpexcted sand dunes for the first time. We just had to stop and take a look. We continued on down HWY 101 stopping at various Scenic lookouts along the way. There was still some foggy patches here and there, which made 'scenic vistas' not so scenic... Our sightseeing stop for the day was the Oregon Dunes National Recreational Area, in Southern/Central Oregon. This was a large sand dune area located near the ocean, looked to be a popular place for ATVs, dirtbikes and Dune Buggies. Gold Beach was our final destination for the day, we arrived much later than anticipated. Checked into our stuffy, smelly motel room, and then took a walk on the nearby beach as the sun was setting. went for a late dinner, view was good, and the food was average. However, came across a real gem the next morning on the way out of town; organic blueberry pancakes, french toast with blueberry compote and the BEST coffee and esspresso! The Cape Cafe, if you are ever in the area.
